What is it?

Organised by the Whitby District Lions Club and raising thousands of pounds every year the Whitby Boxing Day dip is set firmly in the festive calendar. Whilst many thousands of locals and visitors make their way onto the beach and the pier to watch the yearly tradition, the really brave get ready to make a splash by running like mad into the near freezing North Sea.

The Build Up

No going back now as hundreds of hardy souls young and old go running into the near freezing North Sea.

Spot the Shirts

Bit of advertising spotted, Andy, manager of Fishburn Park under 15's and Boxing Day Dip veteran having taken part for some 10 years seen ready and waiting for the start as one of the Fishburn Park under 15 team lads emerges from the sea cold and wet but still smiling.

On Way Out

Anyone would have thought it was a bit cold in the sea Tom!!

Tom not being the one just to get his feet wet had to be one of the last dippers to reach dry land after taking the word 'dip' as just that and diving in head first!!

Well done Tom!!

Being as you enjoyed it that much you can do it all over again next Boxing day!
You never know, I might join you next year!!!
